This is a great episode. I have recently become aware of the problems with charter schools and private schools taking money away from our public schools, but this episode helped me understand the issue much better.
It's wild that charter schools in Indianapolis are taking money away from all the schools in Harrison County. What a disservice to our kids. Kids in Harrison County deserve a good education too!!
Wealthy parents who were already sending kids to private school are now getting their education partially paid for with our tax dollars. What?! That's outrageous! So we have to lose money for our public schools so a few rich kids' parents get to pay a little less money? This is a horribly inefficient, wasteful, and unfair use of tax dollars.
It was great hearing Sarah's experience with private vs public schools, and the lack of quality education in some private schools vs public, but they still get tax dollars without the same standards and oversight. The push to eliminate public schools is so scary.
I have a kid in public school and I am going to start going to board meetings and get in touch with the Indiana Coalition for Public Education. Thank you for this conversation.
